Making the Change
Switching over to home prepared food takes a little getting used to. An abrupt change to any dogs diet from kibble or canned food to homemade food can cause loose stools or upset tummies.
Initially introduce the new food gradually over the span of a week. Popular options include supplementing your existing food, giving Skip the Kibble as a weekly treat meal, or choosing it as their main diet. There is no right way. Its up to you and whatever works best for your family and your pet.
Top Quality Meat
We use only top quality meat to make our recipes. Pet food on the market today does not contain the breadth of ingredients needed to meet nutrient requirements so artificial supplements are added. There is no specific organization in Canada governing pet food. Pet foods are allowed to contain some of the worst wastes imaginable. It has been discovered that condemned animal material is being put in pet food. These are meats labeled as "4D". This means that they can legally use road kill, dead, diseased or dying animals, expired supermarket meat and also house pets that have been euthanized!
Fresh Produce
Extensive processing of kibble destroys most nutrients in the food and because of this powdered and liquid vitamins need to be added. With home prepared small batch meals, whole vegatables are steamed, 100% of your pets necessary nutrition is provided naturally without the addition of preservatives or other potential carcinogens. This also eliminates "empty calories" that lead to pet obesity. It is well documented that dogs with ideal body weight live longer.
Balanced Meals
Every day we are becoming increasingly aware that harmful dietary preservatives and synthetic chemicals pose health hazards. The same holds true for your pets. Each year dozens of commercial pet foods are recalled and thousands of pets suffer permanent injury or death. Bottom line is Healthy food = Healthy pets! It is a joy to serve my dogs a wholesome meal and watch them savour every bite and know exactly what they are eating.
Our Mission
Our pets are part of our family. We want to educate people on the importance of knowing what is in the food you are feeding your pet. Pet food regulations are designed to make food that is safe for consumption and 'attempt' to meet nutritional requirements. Labels are often misleading as they use words like "premium" or "gourmet". When purchasing food try and avoid labels that contain these words; they all just disguise inferior food quality.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much do meals cost?
Our meals are approximately $10/lb of freshly prepared food. Depending on your dogs size this could last up to 4 days as a meal supplement
How do you determine my dog's portions?
For feeding recommendations please reference Our Calculator.ย These numbers should be used only as a guide, as every dog has their own unique metabolism and activity level. We recommend using a digital scale for increased accuracy, but you can also use the measurement provided in cups. We use the estimate of 1 cup = 8 oz over all our diets. Be sure to monitor your dogโs weight and adjust serving size as needed.
Do I need to refrigerate the food?
Our meals are prepared and immediately frozen to best preserve nutrient integrity. To use, gently thaw the package overnight in the refrigerator. The remaining food should be stored in an air-tight container in the fridge and used within 4 days. Any remaining food after the recommended period should be discarded.
Do I need to cook the food?
Our meals are fully cooked just simply thaw and serve!
How do shipments work?
At this time, we deliver 2 days/week. On Tuesdays And Thursdays, we deliver to a large area in and around Ottawa so we cannot guarantee a specific time of day. During the warm months if you will not be home to receive your shipment we suggest leaving a cooler to place your order to keep it cold.
How do you ensure meals are complete, balanced and contain the proper nutrients?
We use advanced software that utilizes the USDA database of foods that has been modified to contain the nutritional needs of dogs and cats. Recipes are created using the National Research Council (NRC) requirements and nutritional software to insure that our recipes are complete and balanced.
Are Dogs Carnivores?
Dogs are actually omnivores, especially domestic dogs.
Given their evolutionary history alongside humans domestic dogs, like people, tend to be very efficient at digesting carbohydrates. If you think about human diets, many of the most functional foods are those foods that have unique nutrients - the things that give vegetables and fruits their colour and flavour. Those particular compounds are not found in proteins and fats. As a result, our diets have been carefully formulated with these unique fruits or vegetables to create the best nutrient blend for your pet. We include not only what is required, but also ingredients that can assign better benefits to optimize health. So, unlike cats and other carnivores, dogs should be regarded as omnivores. Carbohydrates are important and they can be used to maximize the overall health of your dog.
